Annie Coburn Cause of Death? Mother of Steeplechase Champion Emma Coburn, Dies at 62


We are saddened to report the sudden death of Annie Coburn. She was the mother of Emma Coburn, the 10-time U.S. steeplechase champion. Reports confirm that she died on January 7, 2023. Annie was 62 at the time of her passing which has gotten everyone shocked. Tributes have poured in for her on social media after the news broke out. Of the running community in Colorado, Coburn was widely recognized. When her daughter Emma Coburn won the Olympic Trials and qualified for her third Olympic squad in June 2021, she was a frequent spectator at the side of the track, supporting her daughter. The following evening, Emma told NBC, “Sharing this with my mom is everything.” Coburn routinely welcomed Emma’s University of Colorado collegiate classmates and Team Boss training partners to their 9,000-foot-high home in Crested Butte, Colorado.

She was renowned for her delectable food and gracious hospitality. Emma Coburn said on Instagram that over the years she received treatment, her mother had to deal with seizures, 41 rounds of chemotherapy, 8 major operations, and other side effects. She “didn’t just ‘fight’ her cancer and her diagnosis in the last three years, she opted to live in bright color and surpass expectations,” wrote Emma Coburn. “To say she displayed strength is an inadequate reflection of Annie Coburn’s courage, optimism, humor, and power.”

It is coming forward that Annie died three years after she was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. It is no doubt to say that she undergoing treatment for all these years but nothing seemed to work out as she could not recover and unfortunately succumbed to the dreaded disease. Coburn claimed to be at home, surrounded by her family, and pain-free on December 20 in an Instagram post.

She wrote, “Don’t worry about me. “I’ll be alright, I promise. Instead of focusing on what we are “losing,” let’s all be grateful for what we have been given in this amazing life. Nothing is being lost here for anyone. We’ve got the good fortune to appreciate life. Make use of yours!
