England Footballer Jimmy Greaves Dies At 81 Cause Of Death Reason Biography

Another heartbreaking news is coming forward where Jimmy Greaves, the former England Striker, has passed away. The news was announced by the Tottenham Football club on Sunday, September 19., 2021. The club wrote that they are deeply saddened to learn about the unfortunate demise of the player. They addressed Jimmy as the record goalscorer of his previous club, Tottenham. and as the finest marksman, the country has ever seen. Greaves was 81 at the time of his death. Ever since the disheartening news came to light, social media flooded with condolence and RIP messages.

Jimmy Greaves started his career with Chelsea and played for the London club from 1957 to 1961. The prolific striker netted almost 124 league goals for the said club. He took part in 57 internationals for England where he scored as many as 44 goals. It helped him become the 4th highest scorer of the country and was behind Gary Lineker, Wayne Rooney, and Bobby Charlton. Besides, Jimmy also appeared in the 1966 World Cup, England’s three group games. However, the player got injured and was replaced by Geoff Hurst who secured a hat-trick and registered a victory against West Germany with a scoreline of 4-2. The match had taken place at Wembley.

Besides playing for Tottenham Football Club, Jimmy had played for West Ham United and had a precise term with AC Milan, Italian Club. With his brilliant finishing and excellent level of gameplay, he also scored in the 1962 FA Cup final for Tottenham and lifted the trophy while Greaves also netted twice in the European Cup Winner’s Cup in 1963. The 88-years-old has scored 357 goals in the English top-flight which is yet to surpass after fifty years. Jimmy took retirement in 1971.

Condoling Jimmy Greaves’ death, Gareth Southgate, England manager, stated that in the next month’s world cup qualifier that would take place at Wembley against Hungary, the national team would pay the departed soul a tribute.

Earlier, Jimmy Greaves had suffered from alcoholism before he became a presenter on the television show titled “Saint and Greavsie”. In 2015, the footballer had suffered a stroke that left him wheelchair-bound with critically impaired speech. Greaves passed away on Sunday morning.
