He was born in Dergaon, Assam Province, British India which is now India on 10 September 1933. He was a great Poet and his poems were too much loved by people. He completed his education and received his degree of master in History in 1961 from Gauhati University. He was awarded several awards such as the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1981 in Assamese for the collection of his poetry, Padma Shri in 1990 by the government of India, and many more in his life. He was best known for his Symbolism around the world he began his poetry career at the beginning of the 1950s by writing poetry.
He was survived by his wife and children including two sons and a daughter.
