The popular Tamil film Koozhangal (Pebbles) has been selected as the Indian entry for the Best International Feature Film category of Oscars 2022. Shaji N. Karun, who was one of the jury members including Ananya Chatterjee, Ruma Sengupta, Indraadip Dasgupta, Navaniat Singh, P Sukumar, G Bhageeradha, Vipul Mehta, Sumit Basu, and Ravindra Jadhav, announced the news on Saturday, October 23, 2021, in Kolkata. now, the news has become the talk of the town as everyone is coming forward and congratulating the cast and crew for the success. It is indeed a proud moment for Indian cinema.
P.S. Vinothraj who has directed the said film expressed his happiness upon hearing the news. He said that the selection of his film has given him a kind of faith and belief that he had taken the correct decision to make the film. The director further added that this has also added a huge responsibility as he will have to make sure that he continues making such kinds of amazing films and provide the viewers with good cinema.

Vinothraj also shared his story. He said that he was fascinated by the cinema from a very young age. The director added that he could watch the shootings of the film in his village, near Madurai in Tamil Nadu. He also added that earlier he wanted to become a cinematographer but things never really go as we have planned them. For those unversed, a jury comprised of 15 members watched 14 films which also included Vicky Kaushal’s Sardar Udham Singh and Vidya Balan starter Sherni and chose the said film.
Talking about the film, it surfaces around a young boy who follows his alcoholic and violent father on a quest to fetch back his mother as she had run away from his house. It was initially released on February 4, 2021, under Rowdy Pictures. Besides, it features Chellapandi and Karuththadaiyaan in pivotal roles. The Tamil language film was also screened at the 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam which was held on 4th February 2021 in the Netherlands. There, it has managed to receive the Tiger Award.
