The most-anticipated movie Laal Singh Chaddha has finally hit the theatre. Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer remained in controversy ever since its trailer release. Several hashtags started to trend on platforms like Twitter as netizens came forward and expressed their opinion about boycotting the film. The effect of the boycott can be seen in the film’s box office collection. According to the early trends, the movie is witnessing a steep but expected fall on day two of its release. Let us check all about it in the article below.
Based on the Hollywood hit Forrest Gump, the Advait Chandan-directed film did a collection of Rs 12 crore on Thursday. Trend analysts expected that the numbers will see an increase in the numbers with time. However, it did not happen and the film’s collection dropped by around 35% on Friday. Yes, the movie could only earn around Rs 7 crore. It is no doubt to say that its debut was good enough for the third spot on the list of the biggest first days at the box office this year.
The movie is behind Bhool Bhulaiyaa which earned 14.1 crores, Bachchan Pandey. 13.2 crore, Samrat Prithviraj, 10.7 crores, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Rs 10.5 crore, and Shamshera, 10.2 crores. According to BOI, the film is a non-starter in mass markets. If it wants to survive in the theatres, it will need to show massive growth over the Independence Day weekend. Let us add that along with Aamir Khan’s film, Akshay Kumar has also come forward with his film Rakshabandhan.
Both the films are giving each other competition and pulling the audience towards it. However, it is not affecting their box office collection much as Akshay starrer has also collected not much yet and needs a miracle to perform well. Although there are many reasons available for the low start of the film and the drop in its collection, a simple answer is its trailer. Yes, needless to say, the trailer was not appealing and it failed to appeal to the viewers.
The holiday factor might save the lifetime collections of Laal Singh Chaddha but a sub 100 crore lifetime seems impossible at this point. However, nothing can be confirmingly said at this moment. Apart from Aamir Khan, the film features Kareena Kapoor in the lead role too. What are your opinions about the collection and the film as a whole?
