According to the publishing house, Nelida Pinon took her last breath in a hospital in Lisbon. However, they did not reveal her cause of death. It is coming forward that her body will be repatriated to Brazil and she will be buried in the mausoleum of the Brazilian Academy of Letters (ABL), in a cemetery in Rio De Janeiro. Who Was Nelida Pinon?

Born on May 3, 1937, in Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Nelida Pinon was a well-known author. She was considered as of the foremost writers in Brazil today at the time of her death. It is reported that her parents were Galician immigrants. Working as a journalist for the newspaper O Globo, she studied at the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. She wrote her first novel in 1961 which was translated into English as The Guidebook of Archangel Gabriel. Later, in 1984, she attained a lot of popularity with A Republica dos Sonhos (The Republic of Dreams).

Being one of the most-known writers, Nelida was also honored with several awards including the 1995 FIL Award and the 2005 Prince of Asturias Award for literature. Besides, she was also the President of Academia Brasileira de Letras from 1996 to 1997.
