The person we are talking about was well-known and the legend of Karate Sensei Shihan Fumio Demura who passed away at the age of 81 on 24 April 2023, Monday. Fumio Demura was born on 15 September 1938 in Yokohama,Japan.He started to learn karate at the age of 9 under an instructor named Asano.
Who Is Sensei Shihan Fumio Demura?
He was a resident of Santa Ana, California. At the age of 12, he started training under Sensei Ryusho Sakagami in Itosu Kai Karate. Sensei Shihan Fumio Demura was a legendary teacher, instructor, and also actor.
He was involved in acting in the Karate Kid series of films. He was the stuntman for Pat Morita who played the character of Mr. Miyagi. He also did several films and documentaries like The Warrior Within, The Karate Kid, Rising Sun, The Next Karate Kid, and Xtreme Martial Arts: XMA.
Sensei Shihan also performed in various shows including In October 2010, Demura performed for the United States Martial Arts Festival hosted by Koyanamada International Foundation. In 1986 Demura was promoted to 7th Dan in Shito Ryu Karate. Then he was promoted to 9th Dan in 2005. Dan is like a ranking system and used by many Japanese, Koreans, and other martial art organizations to indicate the level of a person’s ability. He wrote many books on Martial Arts including Shito Ryu Karate, Advanced Nunchaku, and Tonfa: the karate of Self-defense.
