Veteran actress Surekha Sikri passed away at the age of 75. The death news was confirmed by her manager who informed that the actress died due to cardiac arrest on Friday morning. The news has shocked the entire Bollywood and Television industry who is paying tribute to the three times national award winner. Celebrities like Anubhav Sinha, Karisma Kapoor, Siddharth Shukla, Sushant Singh, and Manoj Bajpayee paid tribute to the late actor and remembered her exceptional performance in the films while the fans of the actress are also expressing their grief on her death.
Surekha Sikri’s manager stated that the actress was facing complications in health for a long time. As per the reports, she got paralyzed in 2018 while after two years in 2020, she had a brain stroke. After getting the treatment, she had started living a normal life but this year, she faced another brain stroke which caused her complications. The manager further mentioned that the actress’ family needs privacy this time as the death news has shaken them entirely as they are finding it hard to believe that Surekha died due to cardiac arrest.
The 75-years-old had risen to fame after her character played in the popular Television serial ‘Balika Vadhu’. She had portrayed the ‘Dadi Sa’ (Kalyani Devi Dharmveer Singh) character which received several appreciation from the fans and the critics. The show aired on Colors in 2008 and continued to 2016 with Siddharth Shukla and Avika Gaur like popular celebrities enacting in it. Besides, she worked in other serials including CID, Saat Phere, Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil, Banegi Apni Baat and received recognition for her Dadis characters.
Apart from that, she also worked in some very popular films where Ayushman Khurana’s ‘Badhai Ho’ emerged out as the most-liked film in 2018 while she was also seen in ‘Tamas’ released in 1988, and in 1995 released film ‘Mammo’. For Badhai Ho, the actress received the best supporting actress award. Born in Uttar Pradesh, she spends her childhood in Nainital and finished her studies at Aligarh National University.
Later, she joined the National School of Drama in Delhi. In 1989, the actress even received Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. She is married to Hemant Rege and is also associated with Naseeruddin Shah as her sister is married to him. Surekha Sikri was lastly seen in the Netflix released film titled ‘Ghost Stories’. Her death has really shocked everyone and everyone is paying her homage.
