Sources confirm that the priest was burned to death after bandits set fire to his parish rectory in northern Nigeria. According to reports, the body of father Isaac Achi was discovered among the charred parish building of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic on January 15. The information was shared by the Catholic Diocese of Minna, Nigeria. Sources confirm that the man breathed his last after being attacked by the armed bandits. They reportedly attacked the priest’s residence in the village of Kafin Koro at around 3 AM. Another priest at the rectory, Father Collins Omeh, escaped the building, but sustained gunshot wounds and is being treated in a hospital.
Who Is Isaac Achi?
Alhaji Sani Bello Abubakar described the attack as inhumane and ungodly. For those unversed, Bello is the governor of the Nigerian state of Niger who went on to describe the incident as ungodly. It is said that he directed the local security agencies to pursue the attackers. Adding further, Bello said that this is a sad moment for a priest to be killed in such a manner which means that they are all not safe, these terrorists have lost it, and drastic action is needed to end this ongoing carnage.
Achi served as the parish priest of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church where he sadly died. The Diocese of Minna said in a statement shared by the Nigeria Catholic Network said that may the soul of very Reverend Father Isaac Achi and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in perfect peace.
