Lil Tjay, New York rapper and singer, was shot in Edgewater, New Jersey last night. According to the officials, the incident was an attempted armed robbery that occurred shortly after midnight last night. It is coming forward that the rapper was not the only person to have been shot as another individual named Antonie Boyd was also shot at a local shopping plaza called 14 The Promenade. After being shot, Lil Tjay was taken to the hospital where he has has undergone emergency surgery. Here, check the further details of the incident.
According to the reports, the Bronx rapper was struck multiple times at The Promenade in Edgewater. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the cops responded to reports of shots fired at the location just after midnight. When the officials arrived at the scene, the rapper, whose real name is Tione Marriot, was found with multiple gunshot wounds. Along with him, a 22-year-old man named Antoine Boyd was also found with a single gunshot wound.
Taking their health into consideration, they were immediately taken to the area hospital for treatment. However, officials have not released their conditions yet. It has been coming forward that the shooting happened after a man named Mohamed Konate attempted to rob Tjay, Boyd, and a third person who was present with the rapper at that time. The third person has been identified as 24-year-old Jeffrey Valdez. Reports confirm that both Boyd and Valdez had an unlawful weapon on them at the time.
The officials soon began their investigation into the case and on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, the gunman Mohamed Konate was arrested. He was detained by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the New York Police Department. The culprit’s extradition to New Jersey happens to be pending now. Reportedly, Konate is charged with three counts of armed robbery, three counts of attempted murder, two counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree aggravated assault.
On another side, Valdez and Boyd were also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. The duo was being held at the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack where they are waiting for an initial hearing. Talking about Lil Tjay, he is a Bronx-rapper having an impressive 7 million followers on Instagram. The young rapper rose to fame on Soundcloud and was later signed by Columbia Records in 2018.
