Who is Shalini Randeria? First Woman President and Rector of Central European University Wiki Biography Bio

Shalini Randeria, a professor of Social Anthropology, has been appointed as a rector and president of CEU. The lady professor was given this position by the board of trustees at Central European University (CEU). With that, she becomes the sixth person while the first-ever woman to be appointed on the said post. From the last 30 years of the university, no female was appointed as the president and now after so many years, Shalini Randeria has created history. The official handle of CEU took to its Twitter and shared the information. They shared a picture of the professor and warmly welcomed her as the next president.

The officials further stated that Shalini has a scholarship in anthropology globalization along with law, state and social movements. With this aforementioned announcement, the searches for ‘who is Shalini Randeria?’ has gotten started. Well, let’s find out about the lady who certainly gained deserved attention by achieving nothing less than a milestone. Professor Shalini Randeria was born in India while she has been residing in America for quite some time. The professor has a notable record of being an anthropologist.

Besides, she is also the rector of the Institute of Human Sciences (IWM) situated in Vienna. Along with that, Shalini is a renowned professor of Social Anthropology and Sociology at an equally renowned institute named Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (HEID) located in Geneva. Besides, she is the director of the Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy at IHEID as well.

Being a professor, she has published several things precisely on the anthropology of globalisation, social, state movements and law. Apart from that, she also served on CEU’s Board of Trustees. Shalini Randeria will succeed Michael Ignatieff whose serving period will end in July. The Chair of Search Committee Alexander Soros stated that they were finding someone who has a wide range of skills including intellectual, managerial with a strong perspective which they can utilize to lead the university.

Among the list of those candidates, professor Shalini Randeria emerged out as that candidate fulfilling every requirement they were looking for. While Soros thanked the other members of the committee as well for their exceptional way of thinking, hard work and excellent judgment. Whereas, Shalini Randeria stated after accepting the post, that she feels honoured to be a part of the CEU community and that she is looking forward to beginning working with the staff and faculties of the university.
