The news has shaken everyone to the core as the player was killed in a mass shooting in Harlem that also injured eight other people. Darius Lee’s father, Eric Lee, stated that the entire family is in shock as their son was different. He added that nobody had expected that he would die a tragic death and added that he did not even curse, did not hang out, did not drink, did not do anything to offend someone. According to his father, the 21-year-old only played PS5 and basketball so it is really shocking that someone killed himso brutally. According to reports, Darius Lee was among the nine people who were shot overnight on Fifth Avenue and 139th Street. It is reported that the scene was close to the residence of Lee.
Reports state that Darius Lee’s sister, Tiara Weaver, heard the shots. Taking the seriousness of the matter into consideration. she called her brother but he did not respond. She called again but he did not pick again. Later, Darius’s best friend called his mother and informed him about the young basketball player being shot to death. Tiara described her brother as a humble, quiet, star, and, amazing. She added that they loved him and that they are going to miss him. Tiara further stated that she does not know what she is going to do without him as he was her other half.
Police stated that the block was crowded before the shooting and that people were out having a barbecue while a group of people was filming a music video when authorities believed some kind of dispute broke out. The officials even discovered a gun at the scene. Public Advocate Jumaane Williams said they need to get some resources to stop this violence because people are dying and they are tired of it.
